The hand written element adds a personal touch that I wouldn't be able to achieve with photoshop type. Because the images are coloured digitally, I wanted the text to add a handmade touch, that works with the imagery.
Not only does it make the book feel more personal to anyone looking at it, but also to the people that contributed. Like Ive mentioned before, I like involving people in what I do, makes them feel a part of it, and I think thats a really good think. Creativity is a powerful thing so I want to share it as much as possible.
I used this technique for the Warsaw zine, and it worked really well, so I emphasised it for this one. So many people have contributed that I had to whittle them down, but having the choice was really good, and meant I could match the type to the images a little more.
Positive social change is what I want to work with in the future. Just by making people think about kind thoughts towards someone makes a difference Im sure.
That was the idea I had with the kindness project, it just wasn't working well for me at the time. i want to revisit that this summer, and work out other ways i can document something as broad at kindness.
