Reflecting through my sketchbooks has made me realise how much I love to document. It has confirmed my personal connection to it, as these are all from my personal sketchbooks. Most of these drawings are from life, and this is something I want to develop much more in the future, and definitely before I go to Greece.
I watched an interview that Wendy Macnaughton did the other day, and she explained how drawing from life makes people interested, and sparks a conversation, where as pointing a camera in someones face immediately makes people uncomfortable. This is a great observation, so I need to work on my life drawings. I think I would like to start going to life drawing classes too.
Thoughts and evaluation-
- My sketchbooks are my memories. My feelings, my personality, my experiments. They are really important to me.
- Discover new things about the way I work every time I work in one.
- They become my visual journal, and a place where I can document my surroundings at any point in time, so I must carry one always.
- Keep working exhaustively in a sketchbook, as it will continue to improve my practice.
- Having a place to keep personal briefs alive has kept my practice motivated all year, so I must continue this in the future.
