I have wanted to print onto fabric for ages! Ever since listening to Hannah Waldron talk in the lecture theatre actually. I really liked her idea that it became something that you could fold and scrunch up and it would still remain. Being able to transfer imagery onto a variety of materials is really exciting, and I like that Ive been able to do something besides on paper.
The reason Ive decided to print onto fabric is to link certain elements of my project to materials used. Ive been saying for a while now that I like to have a concept behind my work, and I like to add theory too. This brings in the idea of open mode because its an experiment.
However, the real reason, and the way Ive linked it, is the connection to my Dads bakery. Every night my Dad used to cover his bread with cloth, a repeated process that enhanced the quality of the bread. It was a learning process. Every now and then he learns new techniques that he then tries for a few months before he finds something better. This technique stuck for a while.
I want to try and link the work to the subject in as many ways as possible. So Im using the cloth to link my Dads experimental processes with his bread with my own experimental process within illustration.
These one's came out pretty well, but I think I want to do some more, and make them all square, and the same size, so will try again.
