I always come back to Olivier Kugler when I think about reportage illustration. He is my biggest inspiration to date, and I want to be able to achieve what he does with my own work. He documents real life situations. Hard hitting, thought provoking documentary.
In the future, this is what I want to do.
His illustrations are the main focus in his work, but what tells the story is the words. They work hand in hand in order to communicate effectively. This is the approach I have been taking with this documentary series, and what I aim to improve far into the future.
I have found this technique is used quite often with illustrative journalism, and I think it works really well. The images need to be strong, and be able to communicate what the words are speaking, or at least the theme of the overarching documentation.
I want to find more interesting things to document as soon as Ive finished this project, tell peoples stories, get people involved in various projects. I need to keep practicing before I go to document harder hitting things.
